The official starting point is the California Secretary of State's My Voter Status tool. It is built for a voter to check the record tied to their own identity. Enter the name as registered, the date of birth, and an accepted identifier. A match can show the registered name, political party preference, election-material language preference, polling place or vote center, upcoming elections, and the status of a vote-by-mail or provisional ballot.

This is a verification form, not a name-only public directory. A person cannot enter a stranger's name and scan the Hanford voter rolls. The county's voter registration page also routes residents to pre-registration, voting-rights restoration, Safe at Home, and current election information. Hanford Voter Records Are Restricted
California voter records are structured government data, but they are not a public phone book. Elections Code §§ 2188 and 2194 permit release for election, scholarly, journalistic, political, or governmental purposes as determined by election officials. The applicant must identify the information sought, the intended use, and any person or organization that will benefit from the request.

Commercial, advertising, marketing, personal, private, harassment, and unauthorized internet-display uses are prohibited. Unauthorized acquisition or use is a misdemeanor under Elections Code § 18109. Suspected misuse may be reported to the Secretary of State Voter Protection and Assistance Hotline at 800-345-VOTE.
Use voter data only as approved. Do not post, transfer, market from, or use Hanford voter records to harass or harm anyone. A recipient needs new approval before data may be shared.

Confidential under California law. Elections Code § 2194 and Government Code § 7924.000 restrict registration-affidavit data. Kings County does not release a driver's license number, Social Security number, or signature, and protected addresses stay shielded.
Hanford Voter Privacy and Safe at Home
Safe at Home is California's address confidentiality program. The Secretary of State administers it for qualifying survivors of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, child abduction, elder or dependent-adult abuse, and human trafficking. The program can help keep a home address, telephone number, and image confidential and off the internet.
Kings County points voters facing life-threatening situations to Safe at Home and confidential voter status. This protection changes what may be released from the Hanford voter rolls. It is more than a request to hide a search result. Election officials must treat the protected address under the confidentiality rules tied to the voter's status.
Note: A person who needs address protection should use the official Safe at Home enrollment route before assuming an ordinary records request can shield data.
Hanford Addresses and Voter Districts
A Hanford mailing address does not by itself settle every city, county, or district boundary. Annexations and county-to-city reorganizations can change the government geography tied to an address. Election officials, not a general map or permit portal, are the source for a voter's current precinct, districts, and polling assignment.

Hanford Voter Registration Deadlines
Kings County says an online registration must be submitted by midnight no later than 15 days before an election. A mailed form must be postmarked by that same deadline and received by the close of polls on Election Day. Residents may use California's online voter registration portal for registration and pre-registration.
- Before the deadline: submit online by midnight or mail a form with a timely postmark.
- After a move or name change: update the registration, then verify it through My Voter Status.
- After the deadline: use conditional registration at an eligible voting location.
The Kings County page also explains registration rights for people with criminal histories in several statuses, including probation, parole, mandatory supervision, post-release community supervision, federal supervised release, and some county-jail situations. The current county instructions should control because eligibility turns on the person's actual legal status.
Requesting Hanford Voter File Data
The California Secretary of State's state voter-file application is the documented statewide route. The applicant must give contact details, identify any beneficiary organization, select an organization type, describe an approved purpose, and specify the data requested. A clear copy of a current driver license or state ID is required.
- Define the order. Choose statewide, county, district, or specific-voter records. A specific-voter application is limited to ten records.
- Document the purpose. Explain the election, scholarly, journalistic, political, or governmental use and name any beneficiary.
- Sign the agreement. Certify under penalty of perjury, attach the ID copy, and provide the original signature.
- Mail or deliver it. Send it to the SOS Elections Division, 1500 11th Street, 5th Floor, Sacramento, CA 95814. Fax and email are not accepted.
- Protect the files. Follow the approved use, storage, display, and transfer terms after delivery.
The Secretary of State reports a processing range of seven to 14 business days after receipt. For a Kings County report, contact the Hanford Elections office first and request its current Data Information Request form. The county has announced that voter-data costs changed, but the current county form and its exact fees were not available in the research source.
Hanford Voter File Fees and Formats
Statewide SOS pricing is specific. Statewide, county, or district registration data costs $15 per thousand records, capped at $100. A specific voter record costs $30, also capped at $100, with no more than ten specific voters on one application. These are the Secretary of State form amounts, not a substitute for the current Kings County report schedule.
County, statewide, and district orders are delivered on encrypted DVD as three tab-delimited files: a voter data file, a voting history file, and a district file. Tab-delimited means each row is split into fields by tab marks so spreadsheet or database software can import it. Specific-voter records arrive by encrypted WinZip email. The form text also refers to a secure FTP option for some data requests.
Recipients may not share or transfer the data without a new application and Secretary of State approval. They also may not place it on an unsecured website or other unsecured system. These controls travel with the voter file. Payment does not turn restricted Hanford voter records into data for any private purpose.

Historical Hanford Voter Record Paths
Current online status tools do not replace historical voter registers or poll books. Exact Kings County voter-register years were not verified in the research, so begin with custodians instead of assuming a digitized run exists. Kings County was formed in 1893, and Hanford became its county seat. Pre-1893 local research may lead to Tulare County or to sources that are not county voter files.
The California State Library genealogy collection includes voting, tax, property, directory, and other family-history sources. Kings County Elections can identify retained local election materials and historical results. These sources can help connect a person to a date and place when no current voter entry should exist.
Historical work should use a wider name net. Old newspapers, county records, city directories, and election sources may use initials, alternate spellings, or a former name. Record the source year and jurisdiction with each match. A name in an old poll book would show participation in that civic record, not how the person cast a ballot.
